Eating with diabetes is mostly about balance and consistency, not strict bans. A few simple habits can make blood sugar easier to manage.
Build a balanced plate
Aim for about half the plate to be non-starchy vegetables, a quarter protein (dal, eggs, fish, paneer, lean meat) and a quarter whole grains or other complex carbohydrates.
Choose smarter carbohydrates
Prefer whole grains, millets and pulses over refined flour and white rice, and limit sugary drinks, sweets and fruit juices. Fibre slows sugar absorption.
Watch portions and timing
Regular meal times and sensible portions help prevent big spikes. Your needs depend on your medicines and activity, so a plan from your doctor or dietitian works better than generic rules.
